Relight your fire
You and your people have to come up with new ideas, day in, day out. But that’s just the beginning. You have to build, defend, reject and compromise, all the while watching out for group think and cliché.
And if you really want to hit the jackpot, you have to fire up clients and colleagues and push through mediocre. So when your energies burn low, you need to know how to top up.
Legendary designer Phillipe Starck allegedly makes love twice a day to keep the ideas coming. But there are other ways.
Led by experienced tutors from around the creative globe, our eye-popping interdisciplinary workshops stretch minds and energize hearts.
Whatever their background - visual arts, music, written word, spoken word, comedy or business - our coaches have all trodden the path. They know what it takes to keep going and how to stay fresh, left brain and right.
So take a look at what they propose and see what you think.
We run workshops on site, off site or over residential weekends. Start a fire in under an hour or stoke up a longer lasting burn over a half or full day.
Sing a new song
We all know hundreds of songs, right? But how many people do you know who’ve written one? So stop consuming, start creating. Whether you're a beginner, a lapsed performer or you haven't picked up an instrument since those terrible grades at school, you'll be amazed at you can do with a great teacher and some co-writers. It's hard work and there'll be moments of I-just-can't-do-it despair. But there's nothing like it for bonding with a team and proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you thought.
Whatever your favourite movie, there's bound to be a scene or two you could improve, right? Will you introduce a new character? Adjust the Hollywood cheese'o'meter and get real? Change the wardrobe, adjust the lighting...use a new soundtrack? It's up to you but remember, we'd like you to read it or ideally act it out at the end of the session. Action!
Design a prison that works
Here’s an old question…should prisons punish? Or help people who’ve made mistakes get back on the right track? Whatever your view, you’re now in charge. Design a prison fit for purpose … architecture , food, routine, activities, clothes are all up for grabs. But you’re the governor and you’re gonna have to justify your ideas if anything goes wrong…(which it will, naturally).
It's been a long time coming but… your genius has been recongnized and you’ve finally been asked to put on a show in Tate Modern's Turbine Hall. You've got to get your ass in gear.
Whatcha gonna do, eh? Solo? Group? Mixed media? Live installation? Abattoir? Colour by numbers?
Knock us out!
Do you see what’s happening? Or what you think is happening?
Ditching your preconceptions – or those held by your team – and weeding out wishful thinking is a prerequisite for success, whatever you do.
For artists, the discipline of observing a nude model and drawing what you see – and not what you’ve seen before – has been at the heart of the Western tradition for hundreds of years.
And guess what? It works for the rest of us too. Whether you’re in R&D, design, sales and marketing or operations, it’s great training for the mind and the emotions.
